Special Session on Computational Collective Intelligence in Bioinformatics (CCIB 2011)

Introduction

Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary area of research that links researchers of different scientific fields, such as biology, informatics, chemistry, physics, mathematics, medicine, and others, in order to analyze the wealth of biological data and obtain answers to key questions about human functioning. This special session intends to give the state-of-the-art of the research that satisfies the needs of modern bioinformatics and system biology. Computational collective intelligence (CCI) provides methods for modeling complex biological processes and analysis of biological data coming from different heterogeneous data sources. The aim of this special session is to reflect the most recent developments of computational collective intelligence techniques used for solving problems in a variety of areas related to bioinformatics.

Topics of interests

Topics of interests include the use of CCI techniques in the following areas:

  • DNA, RNA and protein sequence analysis
  • Motif and regulatory elements finding
  • Protein structure analysis, comparison, identification and similarity searching
  • Protein structure prediction
  • Mass spectrometry data processing
  • Gene expression analysis and modeling
  • Comparative genomics and genome evolution
  • Theory and applications in phylogeny and population genetics
  • Ontology-driven biomedical systems
  • Gene network and pathway analysis
  • Integration and exploration of biological data
  • CCI-based methods and software tools for bioinformatics

Information for authors

Authors are kindly encouraged to submit their papers (no longer than 10 pages) in LNCS/LNAI style via conference submission system. Only PDF files are required during the initial submission. Submitted papers should contain the high quality, original work. They should not be published elsewhere and should not be under the revision of any other conference or journal during the review time. The papers will be reviewed by international experts. Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings, published by Springer-Verlag in LNCS/LNAI series. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register for the conference.

Important dates

Submission of papers: 15 April 2011  (extended, hard deadline)

Notification of acceptance: 15 June 2011
Camera ready papers submission: 25 June 2011
